Rear Defroster

During my commute this AM it appears that my rear defrosters are not working. Indicator light comes on when I press button but don't think rear window is heating up. Since I have to sit here all day and think about it, I thought I would post questions:

Does anyone know if the rear heating element is on seperate fuse from the switch indicator light? I plan to check the window contacts to see if there is any electricity getting to the rear end. Is that a plausable assumption and is it a good 12 volts to those contats so a test light will work or is it less voltage which necessitates a volt meter?

Thanks for any and all advice.

The dash light and the rear defroster are on the same circuit. If the light is coming on, it's sending power to the rear window, the power is just not making it all the way. Has the element on the glass been damaged, as in scraping a decal off with a razor blade or something? Is the window element still plugged into the power source?

No damage or scraping. I'm a bit confused about the element being plugged in but I will check all out tonight. Thx.

I don't recall the exact connection method either right now. But the window element should plug into the wire coming from the front of the Excursion somehow somewhere. It may be hidden behind the rear window trim panels.

I agree with VA with how they are on the same circuit. This means that u havea cut wire somewhere in between ur button and the rear window. What if a vent is leaking?

Yes you are correct. I had a tab break off my rear window defroster and the power to the grids are behind the trim
