i am a new guy here...i have a question...if the intercooler boots have soot, dirt or any crap around them ...this means they are leaking or sucking air??
my truck is a 99 f350 4x4 7.3ps with 95000 on it. should i replace all the boots?
It's common to have dirty boots -- do the CCV mod, make sure your boots are tight, and they'll stay clean. I'm pretty sure they'll get oil soaked just because of the oily, pressurized air pushing through them without leaking. But it certainly makes it easier to have one blow off when they're oily (usually with higher boost numbers after a chip install).
thanks for the big welcome....just clean it up with carb cleaner and tighten everything up....these boots i guess last a long time....thanks for your help
welcome to the site guys
CCV is crank case ventilation, it runs from Driver Side Valve Cover to the turbo intake pipe, and turbo by creating vacum sucks oily vapors which go everywhere inside intercooler, and all pipes.
you cant miss it its on the top of DS valve cover. you can disconnect it, plug turbo pipe so it wont suck dirt and vent it to the air.
and if you guys need Intercooler boots i have whole set to give out, let me know which one you need. if you need it....

and they are leaking since they always under constant positive preassure
like the guys said clean them with simple green tighten the clamps and you should be good to go....
The crankcase is vented into the intake. Those oil fumes condense and will leak through your boots. There is a kit that you can buy to reroute the vent on the crankcase to a filter/canister instead of your intake. That will stop the oil leaking out of your boots.
