Tried looking at your pic but I get a "web site not found" when I click on the link. You might try adding to your FTE gallery.

I wouldn't feel comfortable reinstalling the old parts.

is diesel kleen ok for a cetane boaster? do i use per instruction on container?
i will buy the gasket kit for the egr valve cleaning.
thanks

Diesel Kleen is what a lot of people use here, the grey bottle boosts cetane more than the white bottle (white bottle is for anti-gel.) I put 10oz's in every tank, some people put more than that.

Hi,
picked up this truck w/66k miles from a dealer a couple of months ago.
Been using DK white bottle ever since for winter, and never idle for more than 10 min
at a time, trucks been ideling and running better ever since, change fluids and oils religisly (no spell check) and have now problem putting my foot into it from time to time.
Used to do it to my 03 f250 psd 6.0L sc/sb/4x4/xlt and smoke out the people behind me till it cleared lol...
That was a great running truck, not one problem, I miss it.
I'll start using DK grey bottle when the weather warms up.
Any other suggestions.. I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Rich

I even try to avoid idling for over 2-3 minutes. Terry Dyson, who interprets my UOA's, told me that idling for much more than 30 seconds isn't necessary unless very, very cold. Even if it is cold, hopefully you have a block heater and oil pan heater. If so, extended idling is still not necessary.

Every time you are out on the highway, make sure you romp on it like you said. I don't know if I am doing enough, but I do at least a couple of hard accelerations between 40 and 70 every time I drive (if possible). Great feeling. I personally won't excersize the system like this while towing.

Stanadyne Performance has a very good reputation for cleaning fuel systems and boosting cetane.

Thumbs up

Hi,
Thanks for the heads up about ideling, will deff. change those habbits,
I do use the engine heater on cold nights (have timer set for 3 to 4 hours)before I leave for work in the morning .Don't like the clack, clack ,clack on start up.
I have to look into a oil pan heater. And try to find Stanadyne locally, Wally world stocks Dk.

Thanks,
Rich

i have always heard that you warm up for 2-3 mins. and if you are towing you cool down for same amount of time. cooling down is important after hard towing. i don't do that much warm up or cool down while running around town in the summer mos.
i had 172k mi. on 97 f-250 ps and most all mi. were towing and i used standadyne and DK. still had # 6 injector to go bad.

I just cleaned my egr( I have pics of the procedure but have not loaded them yet.
my truck had has 75089 miles.
I left the egr unplugged but now do i need to plug it back in? I have driven 15 miles without the egr plugged in and no engine light or limp mode. i am planning on towing tomorrow.
The egr valve looked about like the one above, maybe not quite as bad. easily cleaned with carb cleaner and a rag. took longer to pull than to clean.
Mine is an 05 built in May of 05...do i need to worry about heating the coolant??
