Do the Glow plugs need to be in a temperature range for a good resistance
test? I was testing last night and my multimeter went wackoo-the instructions
said it was only good down to 32 degrees and I was so disappointed because
I really like working on my truck when it's colder than snot out.
Thanks in advance for your help Randy
You should get accurate readings regardless of the temperature. Warm up that multimeter and hold in your armpit when you take it ouside. Or stick it down the front of your pants if it has a vibrate mode.
yeah that's funny Here's the numbers and it's no wonder she doesn't want to start.
7.75
1.3
7.01
4.54
no reading
15.93
.29
no reading
Why can't I get resistance numbers on two of the Plugs, Is this possible? Would the truck even run or start? I'm pretty dumb about this, which you probably can tell.
Thanks Guys. Randy
From what I have learned here on FTE the readings should be between 0.6 and 2.0 Ohms. It looks like you have 1 good glow plug and one marginal. The "no reading" may be wiring or plug connection in the UVC or just open glow plugs. Looks like you will have to pull the valve covers off to really check things out.
Just checking but are you checking using this pinout guide or one like it?
Checking the ohms reading at the valve cover connector on the outside.
Pin Out
G G I I C I I G G
G=Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C= Injector Common
***The injectors fire with a 115VDC signal from the IDM. Do Not pierce the wires to test.***
Test between "I" and "C" to test the injectors, should be less than 5.0 Ohms.
To check glow plugs Test between "G" and battery ground. Should be between 0.6 and 2.0 Ohms

Yea that's what I was thinking. If anyone has that link to the proper procedure for changing out the Glow Plugs and what else should be done under those valve covers I would sure appreciate it. Thanks Randy
