My truck still wears its original factory paint, it's faded and dull, and sun baked and bare in certain spots. I like the look, it's sort of a nice "patina" that I'd like to preserve.
My question is what's the best way to go about this? I've seen guys on TV clear coat over less than perfect original paint but I don't like the high gloss look that results from such a job.
Is there a clear coat that can accomplish what I want but with less high gloss, more of a matte finish?
How should I prep my original paint before applying a clear coat? other than the obvious of being sure it's stripped of all dirt, grime, oil, etc., does it need to be prepped in anyway? a light sanding?
I know virtually nothing about paint so any info is appreciated.
