Just wondering what an unhealthy or failing HPOP feels like. Can someone with experience let me know. I've been chasing a problem for about 2 months where my truck runs really rough for 15 minutes then, once pushed, all cylinders kick in (you can literally feel it) and it runs normal. So far...I've changed ICP sensor, oil, drivers side gasket and UVC harness, glow plus and glow plug relay (only drivers side for now...that is where injectors were replaced...when my problems started).
Since the whole problem seems in some way related to the new injectors and/or engine/oil temp in some way....I'm starting to suspect the HPOP but .......can't explain why it would fail the day after I got new injectors...do they require more pressure?
Any HPOP information at all would lead me in the right direction. I have VC GPs and UVC harness for passenger side that I'm going to do just because....but I don't think that is my answer.
Thought I would add....my issue doesn't seem to be EBPV. I can definitely hear that (on cold mornings) but it shuts off once I hit the brake and normally doens't come back on...when it does...I can hear it. The problem I'm referring to does not seem to be related to the EBPV.
Could be several things. Boost/exhaust leak. Poor fuel pump performance, and/or an oil problem. I guess we need to meet IOT log the ICP. Nobody else in the Memphis area here with a datalogger?
Do you think a perceived engine problem could be caused by TC or tranny issues. Here is why I say this....when it is cold and running rough...when it changes to 4th gear and then overdrive....it vibrates/shudders like crazy. To the point where if I give it more gas I'm pretty sure that the engine will either come out of the hood or I'll break something underneath.
So....in regards to getting up to temp...I wonder if the whole thing has to do with the engine or the drivetrain. For this to be it....the tc/tranny would have to affect the performance at idle and throughout the powerband until fully warm. I'm not sure if this is even possible but just throwing it out there.

it could be possible if the TC is not completly unlocking, or you might even have a cracked Flex plate, It has happened before.
I think you have a bad injector. They are machined to very close tolerances and when those tolerances get worn out of spec then you get an injector that only reports for duty half of the time. Or only when flogged. I went through the same thing with a set of rebuilts. The truck ran fine when loaded but at very light throttle settings it would have a miss. At WOT you could hear a popping sound coming out of the tailpipe because of the imbalanced fuel injection.
I kicked myself because I knew better when I bought the rebuilts. Too many times over the years I've bought rebuilt/used injectors for customers cars and had to warrenty them right away because of unbalanced cylinder contribution.
More than ten years ago I made the business decision that I would install new injectors whenever they were needed or I would not do the job.
I should have stuck to my guns with my own truck.
Two months ago I had had enough of the miss and not-so-good running of the engine and bought a full set of new Alliants.
It completly transformed the engine, smoothed it out, sounds like a brand new engine.
It went from a chunky sound to a more even firing engine. The diesel sound got a lot louder, but it was because IMO the fuel atomizing more completely and burning faster.
And I definatley have a lot more low end, mid range power. Top end is about the same.
