I could only figure Bill would top us all with his Slick; Its must be a great thing to be at the dealership when these trucks roll of the car carriers. I was alive then but with a runnnig nose and busted knees.

"Here, Here" to you Bill, very nice an original owner, WOW! and to you and others who told me of the CD from Hi Po Garage on 64 to 72 parts, I got it, it does answer lots and lots of ?', A big THANK YOU ALL
Also for a laugh, I ruined the bezel on my ignition switch trying to remove it, so I went to the Archives and had a great read. You Guys are all commended for your patience on answering the same ?'s over and over again for all us newcomers. The big THANK YOU ALL goes out again from me and all those who forgot. Richard. Oh my 66 is running again, first time in 10 years.

I added air conditioning, a Fey step bumper, and a free camper shell the used car dept had laying around out back. Traded in a 1960 Olds Super 88 2dr HT. My employee price was roughly $2100.00 OTD..including the A/C.

I didn't order the truck, someone else did. The day before he was to pick it up...he received a draft notice. I saw it sitting on the storage lot, noted it had a 352 w/overdrive and limited slip, and bought it in the spot.

Not only do I still have the truck, but it has its original CA black plates, and the original dealer license plate frames.

Number,
What a GREAT story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You speak of times I remember as a kid. I'll be 51 in June. All my cousins and my brother ended up in Viet Nam for a stint. I enlisted in '75 after I graduated from H.S.. As you know, the war was officially over that summer. Your '60 Olds 88 would be one heck of a keeper now-days. I think it's great that you still ahve your truck. Thanks for the memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'64 F-100 CC Styleside

I have owned my "64 F-100 for over 10 years. I bought it off a lot and found that it was an original, and local! I traced the former owner and he nearly cried when i showed up in front of his home with Baby. He had trade her for a new Camper Special but still loved her. She has a rebuilt 292 V-8 and a 3-speed column shift, and is totally reliable and a daily driver. I put wider chrome rims and tires on her along with a new stereo in the only variations away from original I have done. I would drive her anywhere with confidence. BTW...she is for sale. you can see her in our classified section.

PS: What is a "slick" other than a slang for a PU?

Davidg104;
To the best of my knowledge; the Slick is the name given to 61-66 models. I was once told due to the side panel; there more smooth and less lines. I been also told someone alone the way mention to someone about thier ride, that it wasSlick as in cool. No 100% sure on that story. As also the 67 -72 models are given the nickname "Bumpside" due to the bed side's being recess outwards; as well as73-79 being called "Dentside"; because thier bed sides are recess inwards.
I sure others have the reason for the name Slick; but been told this for along time. This only applies to Styleside beds; not Flareside / Stepside's.
Hope my reason is alittle to clarify.

Thanks for taking the time to respond...one doesn't get to know all the intricacies of ownership until he spends time on a forum like this. I always called mine a "slabside". I like "slick" better.

No problem; I'm sure other reasons are out there; but I only know of the two comments I mention above.
Hopefully someone out there will enlighten us more..

I traded off a 50 F1 to buy my 64 F100 SW 10 years ago. I liked the F1 but the old flathead had it's limitations on cruising speed so I wanted something a little newer to be able to drive to Tulsa (45 miles). The 64 has the 292 with 3 speed and has been great. I would never sell it now. Going to fix her up this year. A few patch panals, seat cover and new paint (original Pure White). I have added floor shifty and duals with glasspacks. Have a W/G T85 to put in it to get the cruising speed up to a comfortabel 70. It does have the spicer limited slip with 3.70 gears. Also going to swtch to disc brakes in the front since I sometimes haul my restored 51 Ford 8N tractor with it and evn with trailer brakes stopping is ???. Truck was built in Dallas, sold in OK City and has spent it's life in OK and Tx.

Bill; I was just wondering my self that same question. Hopefully will find out. Also Popbreed; that's a great story about your passion with these trucks; looking forward to seeing a picture of your 64 pulling your Tractor. There's hardly anything finer with four wheel than a man with his truck & tractor together.

My father and I split the cost of a new 1964 F100 ($2039; 292 V-8, Custom Cab, LWB, styleside, 4 speed, 2-tone blue & white) in September 1964.It was the farm truck until 1972 when my dad bought a new F100 and I claimed the old '64 as a second vehicle. I still have the truck and drive it at least twice a week to the office and haul miscellaneous stuff around town. My dad left a load of stock salt in the bed for about 6 months while I was in the Army, which obviously did a little damage. I rebuilt the engine in 1973, restored the body (bought a good bed from a salvage yard) in 1980, and had the seat rebuilt in 2007. The truck could use a refresher restoration now, but it still gets regular compliments. Current mileage is about 230,000.

It's kinda like a family member.

I have a 65 my dad bought used in 1967 and he gave it to me in 92 because he got tired of driving a stick. I worked in a machine shop and rebuilt the motor and drivetrain and I used it commute to school for 2 years and put over 100,000 miles . I still have it now I drive it every great once in a while. I never plan on selling it. I still remember when I was a kid and used to pretend I was driving and I would shift gears. Since it had the 3 on the tree I would kind of jam it up between gears so he always new.

is it viking blue with white? do you have pictures?? my truck was viking blue originally and i'm thinking about staying original but switching to a 2-tone paint scheme. i'm kind of curious what it looks like.
