Yep speed shifting is completely out of the question....lol....but hey will smoke the hell out of the tires... I clutched it off in 2nd gear and boiled the hides...and thought I could keep em going into 3rd...buy the time I snatched third, the power had allready back off... Bummer!!
Ya, those late model 5 spd truck trannys are useless for powershifting. The arm is too long, it's mounted in RUBBER so it has no feel and is really sloppy.
You could actually do it if you could get it shifted quick enough, but the way they are designed it's reallly difficult.
The 3 spd will be really hard also, as the 2-3 shift is a long one and it's a really wide ratio so it will be a dog anyway. The early 3 spd I have is also NON synchro'd in first gear. Meaning you can't just downshift it like any other gear. You have to "double clutch" it as sorts or just stop and wait for gears to stop turning to put it in 1st again. The later versions were synchro'd.
