I took the first ride in my 56 last night. It has a volare front suspension and a 472 Cadillac engine with a Dodge car rearend. It drives great and has plenty of power. I hope to drive it some more tomorrow . I should be able to start driving it every day next week. I have some bare metal on one front fender and some bare spots on the cab to deal with. I also need to install the hood but I have no hinges. I had planned from the start to make a forward tilt hood so I will probably spend tomorrow and the next day trying to do that.
The big Caddy is great isn't it? You can actually get some decent mileage out of them if you can keep your foot out of the throttle (I can't). I'm running a 500ci Caddy in my 49 (soon to be fuel injected - I hope)
I had never driven the truck. I bought it as a basketcase a couple of years ago. The volare front suspension was included but not installed. I put it under the truck the first weekend I owned the truck.I already had the cadillac engine and trans. The sheetmetal is in very good condition.
