Yesterday I came out of the dry cleaners and went to unlock my door and the key wouldn't turn. I finally had to go around to the passenger side, unlock it and use the power locks to let myself in. With the door open I tried it a couple of times and it still wouldn't turn.
I got home and on an impulse I left the door unlocked and locked it from the outside with the key and it worked. I could unlock it from the outside, as well.
Today I got in with no problems, but after I locked the doors with the power locks I had to go in through the passenger side door again.
Basically, if I don't lock my driver's door with the key I can't unlock it with the key.
It's a 1999 F-250 Supercab and has power locks but not keyless entry.
Any idea of where to look or what could be causing this? Maybe time to convince the wife I need to invest in keyless entry???
I would go with PBEERING idea. Seems that maybe the actuators have slipped or something has. The electric locks move the linkage past a point where using the key doesn't have the leverage to unlock. But if you lock with a key..no problem. It seems that you are not moving the lock mechanism with the key, as far as the actuators are. Take off the door panel and watch each joint and part that moves as you lock and unlock, both with the key and the power locks.

I think you two are correct. Is this a repairable item or a replace item? Since its about 15 degrees right now I haven't opened it up yet.
It could be either. Maybe something slipped or just needs adjustment. Or a part could be worn and needs replaced. Let us know when you find the problem. If it's a part that costs alot at the dealer, could be someone here has a place to go to get a better price.
i have the same preoblem with my 2000 f250 but it only did it about 3 times for me in the last ,month. and i always lock my doors using the power locks.
