2004 F350 6.0 Single Cab. I am noticing when under any load or any speed rpm especially on takeoff That i am not keeping consistance boost or any. Also on freeway speeds around 70 or so i can hear my boost intermittently come on for half a second then a couple seconds later it will do the same thing. I am curious if the waiste gait valve could clogged open and this is where the problem could be caused from.? And where it would be located? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just a ol poor farm boy here in Idaho lol.
there is no wastegate on the 6.0, alot of people (myself included) have had the vanes on the turbo stick. theres a lot of info about symptoms & cleaning them just do a thread search. I dont know if this would cause it to fluctuate though, maybe A leak in the intercooler or a cac hose boot. im sure youll get A lot more replys.

It sounds like sticking vanes to me, how many miles on your truck? If you're close to 100K that could possibly be the cause. Alos check all your plumbing connections, 6.0s have been know to blow off turbo boots. Anyway, here's a link to the turbo cleaning procedure, hope it helps http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-06-05.php
I would also check the egr. Pull it clean make sure that it has tension on it to keep it closed. You could just unplug it and run the truck and see if problem the goes away. Becareful with it for it is not cheap to replace.
I had the same problem and pulled mine last weekend. Took it all apart to clean it according to the TSB issued. Found the plate on the plate badly corroded. Had to replace turbo. 6 hours to do the entire thing and not to complicated. The new one really works well!
Mine was doing the hole surge on and off thing to. Cleaned turbo and no probs. that was at 60k Also you can just unplug the egr and not cause any probs. If its an 05 or newer might through a code but a custom sct can help get rid of that.
I live in Minnesota and my truck is left to idle a lot in the winter when I'm at a job site and the temp is below zero. Maybe 2 hours a week. Ford recomended using their additive to avoid soot problems in the future.
I had the same problem as deercreek1 but my turbo is fine now(about -4 to -10 at the time). I purchased the truck used with 40k. I had a new turbo put on at 58,000 and i now have 75,000. I always run addatives in my truck power service white bottle or lucas when power service is not avalible.
I also Use ps. about once a month, My turbo lately has only problems during freeway speeds. Around 70-75mph, the truck feals like it is running out of fuel, jerking, but only like going up a hill or such, or if i give it a little more gas. I just changed the fuel filter and this has been happening for atleast 4 tanks of gas. But now during normal tow highway or city its fine problem only lies on greater speeds.
If you are going to unplug your EGR make sure you have the keys out of the ignition and the engine is cool. Do a search on EGR disconnect if you have questions. It's in the tech folder also.
Dont Bother Changing the Turbo Waste of money i have the same problem right now i am a mechanic we just change fuel filter and the turbo so far the problem is still there tomorrow i am going to continue working on it all update you when we figure wat it is
