i just recently bought a 9000 pound warn winch for my 78 f250. i've never run a winch or been around them. i would like to know that if you are winching in and it's under load, should you being giving the truck some gas in order to keep the revs up? also if the load is too great and it seems like the truck just won't pull any further is there any danger of burning up the winch if you stay on the control? any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I would also pick up a set of T hooks from Northern tool. They also have some nice bridals with J hooks, t hooks, etc so that you have a solid place to hook to a vehicle. Also, check out the winch accessory kits that are offered at various places online.
One of the most basic ones is never hold the hook with your hand while winding the cable in, always use a strap so you avoid pinching and cutting your fingers off.
with a 9k winch as long as you have good supply of juice you won't stop the winch....as for the revs, i wouldn't worry about it, the truck will recover from the drainage once you get done winching.....Just my $.02
