After reading all your posts I think what you are wanting to do is build a 390 out of your 360. If I were you I would first search. This has been discussed hundreds of times. Then I would find someone in your area that has some knowledge of engine building. Then if you have anymore questions feel free to post or even email me. But to answer your main question, To convert a 360 to a 390 "all" you need to do is use the crankshaft and the connecting rods. The pistons are usable "if" the block is able to be honed and not bored. If it has to be bored there are far better piston selections than a 360 piston. Hope that I have helped in someway. I'm sure the guys on this forums will prove to be able to give more info than one can handle.
ty, with the help I'm getting from this forum has been great so far. been working on fords for 20 years now but this is my first engine build and boy don't I feel dumb. Plus I'm new with forums so I hope I don't offend anyone. again thanks for the help.
JHB, I would recommend that you pick up a copy of "How to rebuild big block Ford engines" by Steve Christ. I am by no means and expert and my tear-down skills are exceptional, but this book has some nice attention to detail for the rebuild.
Enjoy! --Mike

If you want some better details then you need to check out "The Poor Mans 427" on "The Other Site". Its more in depth on the build-up and how it should be machined up! JMHO
