I just bought a 1973 ford pickup I dont usually deal with ford or trucks but I like anything with four wheels and potential. It is a single cab long bed 4x4 with a 3in susppension lift. It has a 360 with a 4 speed trans. I would just like to know if the trans is stock (when i search for shifters all I get is 3 speed stuff). what kind of diffs I have dana or ford or what ever because the truck has an auto reae end and a manual front and in 4 wheel it fights its self so dont work so i NEED MY FRONT AND REAR RATIOS BAD CAN'T DO ANY THING TILL 4X4 WORKS.
Please help with anwsers comment helpfull tips any thing. Thanks guy
Off the top of my head without looking it up.... F150 rear is either a 9" (removable front carrier) or Dana 44. F250 rear Dana 60Front is most likely a Dana 44
4spd trannys with a granny is very common in 70s trucks
At least you have upgraded from a camero. Whats wrong with your shifter that you need another one? Well first lets start with more info about your truck. Post your VIN and any info off the metal tag on the drivers door buy the latch.
You most likely have the ford 9" rear, but to be sure, look at the center of the rear housing from the back of the truck - if it is smooth with no cover plate and bolts, it is at least ford and probably still the 9". If it has a cover plate and bolts, it might be a dana 44, or some other "frankensteined" rear diff. The front will be a dana 44. Try to see if their are still any tags attached to the cover plate(s) (front, and/or rear) or the front of the carrier on the rear if 9". If so, post the info and people here can help decode them. The truck 4-speeds have no aftermarket shifters. Lets start with this and see where we go from here...

The F100 and F250 came as either 2WD or 4WD beginning in 1959.
The F150 was introduced in 1975 and it also was offered both ways.
1973/76: F100/250 4WD's offered three engines: 240 or 300 I-6 / 360 2V
If I am correct a ford 9'' has a pretty much round gasket the rear looks like that but the front had a inward curv on the left side when looking from front
