Ignition Help

Hi people I'm new here, my name is Murray and I was hoping you could help me. I have a 1984 F-250. The other day it just quit running on the way to work, It will only run when the key is engaged (starter running too of course), what do you think is happening here.

Many thanks,
Murray

try ignition switch or start selenoid, I believe either could cause your problem

Could be the ignition switch but it sounds like it is running off the starter solenoid so the starter solenoid should be fine.

Also check your resistance wire from the ignition switch to the ignition coil.
If not those replace the ignition module, make sure it has a blue grommet where the wires go in.

Welcome to FTE.

It will be mounted on the driver’s fender. Here are two images.

Note that you need the one with the blue grommet.

Check out my post:

Even though it is a newer vehicle, I had the same problem. After replacing the
module, it now runs great. And I have the fine folks here to thank for it.
