core support repair

Hi guys,
I have a 94 F150 with a 4.9liter and excellent working A/C. The core support mounts are rotted and gone. I have obtained a replacement OEM part but cannot get a definitive answer on the A/C system. Do I have to open the system to change the support. I'm do not have experience or access to tools to pump down the system if that is required. I know the rest is just a long day of unbolting and removing stuff. Any tips to making this task any easier? If the AC has to be messed with may just get a shop price to do the bulk of it. Any help is much appreciated.

i think you need to open it up but before you take it to a shop, try a salvage or junk yard, by law they need to have the same machine to remove the a/c gas as a shop, might get it done lots cheaper.

you should be able to change it without needing to disconnect anything in the ac system.

thanks for the responses but this seems to make my point some say yes some say no.
I keep looking at it but cannot tell for sure if I can do it without disconnecting ac.
Anyone already completed it with ac? thanks to all

Are you talking about the rad support? If so than have a look at your a/c lines and see if they go through your rad support. My guess would be that if the lines go through the rad support ( to the part of the a/c thats looks like a small rad) then you will have to have the system evacuated and then recharged once everything is back together... you should be able to tell just buy looking under the hood.
I just replaced my box and all the bolts needed to be torched off... and like you I've got to replace my rad support and after looking at the rusted mess down there I think I'll be needing the torches again!
good luck

Unless the radiator support on a 300 is different than a 5.8, you won't have to disconnect the AC lines. I changed mine out on the Bronco a couple years ago, and did not have to disconnect anything other than the wiring. The hole in the middle is large enough that you can twist things around to fit the core support over the AC condenser with no problem. Look around for a good hardware store and pick up a handful of the screws and J-nuts that hold everything together, cause you're bound to break or lose a few.
