why not just trade in your 4x2 for a 4x4? lot cheaper and simpler to do! as ncranchero stated, it should bolt to any 97-03 frame. As many fasteners and electrical connectors and whatnot that you'll damage trying to swap over, it'd be far less headache to just swap the truck for a 4x4 in my book. Are the 2wd and 4wd frames the same or similar enough? Could you just cut out all the 2wd stuff up front and weld in a K member for the front axle? or maybe just use the front stub off a 4wd? Haven't ever looked or measured the two frames for comparison.
thanks for the help guys. the truck has 265,000 mi on it but i did put a new motor and trans in it 80,000 ago.But it also has the v6 and id like a v8,the the truck looks like brand new so i hate to just give it away.
but do you want to sink a bunch of money into a truck that is worth very little, and still be unhappy with the engine size? sure you could swap in 4wd, bolt in a V8 and 4R70 and transfercase, plus driveshafts and 9.75 rearend, but then you'd have a $1500 truck that's worth $12k+ to you... that's a pretty healthy down payment on a newer, lower mileage 5.4 4x4 Scab...
