Since my last exhast system got torn apart, along with my headers, I have ordered a new set of headers and im wondering what you all suggest for a complete exhaust system. I Can get around the inspection with out a cat. Any Mufflers suggestions, Im leaning towards around 22" cherry bombs, Any suggestion for teh best sound though, im looking for a meanthroaty rumble. If that makes anysicne
I am more of a flowmaster or spintech fan. I had flowmasters on my drag car but it now has spintechs on it I like them both. I have a 4" MBRP full exhaust on my F-250 it is diesel thought.
You going long tube, or short tube headers? Eather way, you need a GOOD Ypipe. Not that terrable flowing one that was stock!!! A cat is not going to hurt power on a stock motor. No real reason for getting rid of it. After you have a good flowing system from the motor to the cat, you can work on the cat back. Glasspacks realy dont flow that good. And personaly I hate the raspy sound. Me I like the sound of the Hooker Aerochambers.
I'm always pimping Powerstick chambered pipe mufflers because there's nothing that sounds better if you're into the classic '60's muscle car sound. They're basically glasspacks sans the glass, but with a larger I.D. for less restriction. Just cruising around they sound wicked, at WOT they are frickin' nasty.
Beyond that, if you're planning to scrap the cat anyway I'd recommend 2 1/2" duals with either an X or H pipe.

Why would you use headers with a Y pipe. That would kinda defeat the purpose of the headers in my estimation. Just use stock manifolds if you use this setup.
The long Cherry Bombs give a deep throaty tone. Cherry Bomb also makes other types of mufflers now, so they may have something better. jd
I notice most people lean towards an X, Y, or H pipe for mixing left and right side exhausts ... What about independent sides ... Left and right sides seperate with 2 cats and mufflers ? ...
i was going to use a h pipe atleast, if not a x-pipe. I like the sound of the cherry bombs, I want my truck to sound, deep and rumbling, but not like all the other flowmaster trucks driving around here.

headers will give you flow you want right out of the heads, the y-pipe does not necessarily restrict this, all depending on design of course.....most header & cat-back systems use a y pipe and greatly enhance performance
Headers with a good Ypipe will help. frankly I am not a fan of duels on a 4wd truck. A good Ypipe, into a nice 2 1/2, or 3" system will flow more then needed for a truck, and fit better.
I just put a cherry bomb extreme on my truck, 3" inlet 2.5 outlets. It sounds pretty mean, and by looking in it, it has to flow great because there preactically nothing to slow the airflow down.
