i cannot get my truck to lock into 4 boot. i checked the hubs and they were locked in auto, but turn the **** and nothing, not even 4-lo. both hubs in front are brand new in november and worked fine when i picked it up from the dealer.....until i needed it. let me know if you have any ideas.
i looked at the fuses, nothing obvious, but i will check it out again. i didn't think that the lights on the dash would not come when you turn the switch on unless 4wd was engaged.

That last sentece confused me. The 4X4 light comes on but is not engaged? Or does it not come on when you try to engage it?
I'm still leaning towards an electrical problem, for your wallet's sake I hope it is. The computer thinks in it's in 4x4, but the transfer case disagrees...hmmm. There sould prob be an electrical connection to the transfer case somewhere. Try unpluging it, have a second person shift the truck into 4x4 while you check if the harness is getting the signal. Write down whatever voltage you get from 4x2 and after you shifted. Get yourself a manual and check whatever the manual specs for the transfer case harness are. In theory it should be something miniscule like 1.9 at 4x2 and 2.1 at shift time. Hope it helps. Let us know how it goes.
You said in your original post, "turn the **** and nothing". I'm not sure what you mean. But here is the deal. If the light comes on saying 4x4, more than likely the transfer case is engaged. Have someone else move the truck while you look under it at the front drive shaft to see if it is turning. If it is not and the 4x4 light IS ON, you have a shift motor or transfer case problem. If it is turning, try manually locking the front hubs. If you now have four wheel drive, you either have no vacuum to the front hubs, or a vacuum leak. If it is a diesel, does the heat only blow out the defrost? If so the vacuum pump is possibly bad. If not, the vacuum solenoid that supplies vacuum to the hubs could be bad, or a broken vacuum line.
