D2OE-AB Heads
I came across a set of D2OE-AB rebuildable 460 Police heads and I was wondering what these things are worth. I believe the valves measure 2.19 int, 1.73exh. I was going to use these on the 429 in my 79 Ford 4X4, but decided that these heads would flow too much for a towing rig and since then I've decided to aim for a B5.9 Cummins for my next engine. I'm thinking about selling them if I don't think up another use for them right away. I've heared that they are a rare casting number and if someone can give me an insite on what they are worth, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Cost is all over the board. I've seen bare, uncleaned sets go for under $400 on ebay. And the last time I had cast iron heads shipped UPS, it cost me $90.
I picked up a set a few years ago, complete with pushrod guides, for $150 when a guy was cleaning out his home garage.
And I've seen them for sale, bare, at $600. Don't know what they sold for.
By the time somebody has them done, they'd have $5-600 shop/parts cost in them with SS valves, good springs, keepers, seals, surfacing, guides and grinding the seats. Anybody that pays say $500 and refurbishes them right isn't that far from the cost of new aluminum heads. And if they pay $800 for the bare heads and do them right, they're at the cost of new aluminum heads.
That's the reason aftermarket aluminum heads sell so well. Market price for bare, original CJ heads are $7-900. And while not common, you can always find a set for sale. That market is driven by restorers and drag racers limited to production heads. The PI heads are favored for 4x4 truck applications and don't normally command CJ prices.
I'd think you should be able to get $4-500 if you wait for the right buyer.

Thanks for the replies. I now have a pretty fair idea what the heads are worth and what kinda of motor they should be used on. I honestly believe that they would not be good for my 429 since I use it for towing and the engine rarely sees 4000 RPM. Right now, the engine starts pulling good at 1200 RPM with strong torque at 2500, which is what you want here in Idaho for pulling my 12,000lb gooseneck in the mountains. That's why I'm leaning towards a B5.9 Cummins as a replacement. Anyway, the bigger valves would move the volumetric efficiency up in the power band and one would have to make frequent downshifts on grades. They might be good for a 514 though. Does anyone out there have any experience with the stroked 460 as far as reliability, power, and bottom end life? I'm tossing around the possibility of using my block to build a 514 with the D2OE heads and building an aluminum jetboat around it.

If you read my original post, I wasn't trying to advertise them, I was trying to find out what these heads are worth and what a good asking price would be...plus find out more info about them. I can't very well ask that question in the classifieds, I wouldn't get an honest answer! I've had people, from this post, ask me if I was selling them, but my original intention was not to advertise them, but see what these things are worth if I ever do decide to sell them. As I stated in a later post, I've deicded to keep them for future use. Sorry for any miss-understanding.
