trans ?

what kind of trans would a 98 f150 w/ 4.6 have? if its an auto. are these a strong trans? what about a 92 f150 w/ 302? im looking at a few trucks and was unfamiliar with the od trans.

It would be a 4R70W. It's a pretty good trans. The '92 would have either an AOD or AODE. I forget if the AODE replaced the AOD in '92 or '93.

my 92 had an aod it was 93 or 94 when they went to the aode

how dependable is the aod or aode? the truck im looking at has 125k but a older guy owns it. would you think its still good for a few more ticks on the odometer?

Later AODs were ok, but at 125k, it's anyones guess as to how many miles are left. How does it drive/shift and what does the oil look like?

There are companies that sell upgrade parts and upgraded complete AOD transmissions, so it's not going to be hard to fix if it does break.
