I already put this in the correct forum but got no bites so maybe you guys can help me. Hey I have one and it runs fine in the morning but once it gets to operating temperatures it will not go into reverse. Any ideas what is going on.
Had one years ago acting the same way. Probably a seal leaking when oil is warm and has thinned. When oil is cold it will be thicker and will not pass thru the seal. Try pouring 6-8 ounces of brake fluid into trans, it will soften the seals and maybe it will help them seal the warm oil. Worked great for me!
Sounds like the rear band isn't being applied. On the FMX, the rear band is applied in "R" and "1", but never in "D" or "2".
That means that the "1" position probably isn't working quite right either. It will probably take off is 1st gear just fine with the selector in the "1" position, but there won't be any engine braking when you decelerate. Try that, or a manual downshift into "1" sometime and see.
If both "R" and "1" are acting up only when warm, then I suspect that the rear band's hydraulic servo has developed a small leak.
That sounds like a plan. I will take it apart next week and adjust the bands and change out the filter then have it flushed professionally. If that does not do it then I will look into the brake fluid idea to soften the rubber since that one has been mentioned to me before.
Do you still have the OEM cooler on the truck? The one on my sons was so pluged up and the water lines were rotting we took it off and went with a newer radiator with a cooler in it and ran new lines up to the radiator. With the better cooling, it shifted alot better.
