There must be some way to DIY troubleshoot COP coils????? Anybody with more knowledge on the subject wish to chime in?

I've been told to check out the CAN BUS Readers on ebay. They are supposed to show live info, pending codes, and current codes. They range from $50 to $100.

I've heard alot of good things about AutoEnginuity. Hopefully the wife will get it for me for the b-day, otherwise I'll have to treat myself to a b-day present this year..

I just went to Schucks auto supply and used their scanner to tell me that I have a misfire on cylinders 3,4 and 8 (my truck is running like crap). I have a cheapy scanner at home that won't show any codes on the truck - it only shows a code if the check engine light in already on. The Schucks auto supply scanner obviously reads pending codes. Best thing is it's free - no paying a dealer for a scan. BTW, I bought 2 COPs locally for $40, but have seen them at rockauto.com for less than $30.

The misfires are not "codes" - they are counters in the PCM that can be read by some of the better scanners.

Cheapo way of diagnosing COPs.

Buy one good one, and put it in #1. If that doesn't fix it, move it to #2, putting the original #1 back in #1. Keep going until you find it.
