Misfire

Well, I guess it's my turn now. On my way home from a long trip the Ex started to run poorly. Misfiring under load, and just overall running poorly. No check engine light. Took it into the dealer today and I'm waiting for the bad news tomorrow. Hopefully they can pinpoint it to a single coil rather than just having to replace all of them.

Any competent mechanic can isolate the bad coil if it is a coil. I had one go on mine last spring. It started in a snap of you fingers. Coils either work or they dont there is no in between. At over $100 a coil, lets hope they don't for all ten.

I had a mis-fire start this past weekend. Borrowed me buddy's code reader yesterday and after i found the blown cigar lighter fuse the DTC reader told me it was COP #3 in about 15sec's. Took about another 10 mins to replace coil that I got from Parts Source for $80. Second coil in 3 years to go. Much cheaper doing it yourself than taking into a shop. Kinda cold though doing it in the driveway at 17 degree F. BRRRRRRRRR

Dealer called, bad #4 COP. This is what I suspected. They also said that there was an update cal for the PCM that they were doing too. Total cost inc diagnosis = $335

About right for the dealer. I am sure the COP from ford is about $125 plus labor.

At least it's fixed.

Good luck!
