Did you give NAPA the 6637 part number? Most NAPA stores have them. This filter is not originaly for our truck, it comes off a larger engine. There is one of the sponsers that has them, I don't remember which one.

I believe the NAPA part number is 46667. Also, you can save $15.00-20.00, if you just order a couple from FleetFilter.com

Thanks all, I know NAPA carries them but does PepBoys or Autozone carry the same filter, perhaps with a different part number may be? Did a search again and there is not even one NAPA store in 100 mile radius.

It turns out that that particular location is the wrong spot to get any kind of accurate measurement for filter flow resitriction until it's virtually too late. Best location for the FilterMinder is on the exit end of the filter element near the itnake tube.
Hmmmm, I maxed out my Magnehelic today easily with the 38R. At 35lbs it was pegged at 15" of restriction. Where is Gene when I need him? Gotta be careful cause I pegged the boost gauge beyond 35psi. Wonder how many of those runs the Magnahelic can take before it is damaged? I may need to shoot him an email. For those wondering, it is a gauge I have hooked up to measure restriction of my 6637.

I think it's time for you to move a battery and put in one of these (spec'ed at about 250 more cfm than the 6637 ):

Mine's in a land fill somewhere in the FL Panhandle. When I put the 6637 on, I chunked the stock box, filter, and FilterMinder in the dumpster and taped up the connector. Not needed and not even a soft code stored without it.

Who's part # is this? Are you implying it is to large to fit in the same space as the 6637?

That's the Wix number. Napa number is 2970. Yes, it's too big to fit where the 6637 is without some further hacking. The outer diameter of the 6637 is only 8.5 inches, so you need to gain 2 more inches of space in there somehow. Only way I know how to do that is to move the battery and pull the battery box completely out. Here are the complete specs for the 6637 for comparison:
<table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr valign="top"><td class="blackmedium" width="130">Part Number:</td> <td class="blackmedium">46637</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td class="blackmedium">

Here's another option, Mike, but it runs about $100. From what the Volant Tech and R&D guy told be, this particular filter element is rated at over 1300 cfm. Problem is that it is using the wrong style of "corrugated flute" for the pressures (vacuum) created by our turbos. Donaldson is in the process of changing the flute design just for our 7.3's, and hte newer design will have even higher air flow ratings.

The link is here for the existing product --> http://www.volantpowercore.com/powercore_filter_detail.asp?ID=4

Pete:

Were you given a sell date for this filter?

Thanks,

Richard

Pete, that filter is cute. But I think I like the bulk look of the 6637 better. I can't tell how big that filter is from the pic, but it does not look as big as the 6637.

4" flange, 8" dia, 8" length. Seems kinda fat compared to length.

Richard... no dates provided yet. I intend on following up with Donaldson, though, because I want to build a custom, totally enclosed cold air intake box (which Volant is also working on right now) for my 7.3, and this element's size makes the task more reasonable given my goals for the box.

Patrick, this element is 8-inches in diameter by 8-inches in height. The cover will actually fit over it very easily because it is 2-inches smaller in diameter than the 6637... downside is that the cover is really too large for a SNUG fit (at least until the turbo spools up and sucks it down).
