There probably is a Hp increase due to the increased air flow, but I've never seen any reported estimates.
Regarding how to do this mod, I have a 6637 folder in my gallery where I go through the steps if installing the filter. One difference, though, is that i would not worry about re-installing the FilterMinder at the end of the filter element the way I did in the gallery.
It turns out that that particular location is the wrong spot to get any kind of accurate measurement for filter flow resitriction until it's virtually too late. Best location for the FilterMinder is on the exit end of the filter element near the itnake tube.
Vijay... I've updated my gallery to exclude the FilterMinder pics that are no longer necessary (in my opinion).
No, the cover is not necessary, but I believe it is helpful. If you want to talk more about it, shoot me an email at famisto8@yahoo.com ... that way I can keep the Mods and Admins happy by keeping any "business" discussions off of FTE resources.
Your welcome, AND thank YOU and all the others who are kind enough to recommend my work (and my daughter's work too since she is the one who actually does the sewing).
I'm extremely happy with my 6637 mod. Mine has been to Alaska and back with no problems. I see no need of the cover, it is very easy to keep an eye on it as is. I guess if I were going to enter an auto show I may consider some kind of fancy cover. but I'm now, and I like to be able to view it in an instant whenever I feel like it.
what is this FilterMinder? was it OEM? Does it throw an error code if bypassed?
It's the little vacuum gauge that has green, yellow, and red regions to indicate how badly plugged your filter is. Stock OEM item. No codes if bypassed. I actually don't bypass it, I simply let it ride on the fender liner underneath my 6637.
Ok 6637 it is...can anyone tell me how to build one of these. Googled but nothing solid yet.
Buy a filter from NAPA (6637) and just plug in?
There's nothing to build. Just removed the old air box and clamp the new filter to the existing rubber boot. Just clean the rubber with a solvent so it won't slip off. You'll need to stretch the rubber a little bit but it will fit on.
I've got to add to this one more time. Easy, Inexpensive, Extremely Efficient. Not to mention it sounds real cool and looks neat. Plus if you open your hood around another PSD owner he/she is impressed and it's a good conversation piece.
