I am considering shaving the door handles on Willard. Has anybody shaved door handles on a 48-52? Did you set it up to both open the door and activate the lock on stock latches? What were the solonoids rated at in lbs of pull?
No one shaved handles on our trucks?
The reason that I asked about 48-52 is that I do not know how the early F100's locked the doors from the inside. With my 49 the door handle is pulled up to lock and pushed down to open with the normally closeed position being the in between position.
Anybody?
You might check with Rocky Hinge Co. He sells a kit that allows you to open the doors with a solenoid and it also has a lock feature. I believe the kit also contains the poppers. The website is www.rockyhinge.com I have used his stuff in the past and it has been of good quality.
49willard; I plan on going the same thing on my 50. From what I have learned, don't get the plastic solenoids, make sure they are made of metal. They last longer. And get 50lb poppers.
Thanks guys for the responses. I checked out Rockyhinge website. I will follow up with them by phone tomorrow. The 50# number is what I was looking for. I was not going to shave the handles but after frenching in a power antenna just behind the drivers door, the shaved hadles are a bit of a go with. I am struggling though since I plan to run the hood chrome/stainless and I have chrome wing vents (51-2 5 star cab wing vents) and stainless division bars. Ah, so many choices and so many decisions!
49willard ,I feel your pain(well..not really ..but I understand your anxiety)..with the stock door handles ,you get ol,d fashioned stock doorhandle operation ,..I think we all know how that works , But IMHO the handles add to the package..not too much chrome , but not too much either .You will have to make the call to shave or not to ,Keep in mind ,you can still rig electric door-locks ,without removing the handles ,but once you remove handles and the battery goes dead how do you gain access??...More work involved to add emergency back-up Good Luck!!
I am using the Autoloc 50lb shaved handle kit on my 55. controller, 2 50lb solenoids, cables, clips, switches, remotes and 8 function controller. and two 50 lb pushers. (I am doing shaved handles)
Ebay for approx $100 for all, like this item 250208739110
This might be a stupid question but if you are shaving the door handles why would you need door locks? With out an out side handle you can not open the door locked or not! Or am I missing somthing as usual?
As a followup on this thread, I am installing the final production pulls in my newly painted doors.. the kit comes with a steel cable to pull the latch release. I notice that with the addition of the door gasket, the pressure on the latch is pretty high.. (good thing I have the killer 50lb pull cans!).. but, has anyone worried about the wear on the steel cable? mine didn't come with cable protection. (called Thimbles).. the cable is 1/16" so a small thimble should be enough..
Also, for those moments when the battery fails, they make a remote battery jumper connector for those of us that have cable release hoods.. (thinking of this).. http://www.sachserodshop.com/pdf/172.pdf
