door locks

time to start thinking about the doors and there only being 1 lock. How can I add a lock to the drivers door? any other ideas to lock the truck up? I do not want to remove the door handles and go with the shaved door handles and the electric kit, but I will if I have to

Tom you can buy locks to install, my truck had locks on both doors. I plan on buying the keyless entry for mine there like $70.

I retained the OEM outside handles, latches, key locks with remote lock/unlock/alarm.
Mid Fifty sells a second door key lock kit. Mine is a custom cab so it had two locks.

simple: Lock the drivers door from the inside by pushing the handle forward, slide across the seat and exit the passenger door, then lock the passenger door from the outside using the key...

That's the way it was done in the day. In many places it was illegal to exit on the driver's side, since all parking was parallel to the curb, opening the driver's door into traffic often resulted in instant removal of the door!

I wanted to keep the original look of not having a key lock on the drivers side, so I installed a power door lock instead. Works really well, and no one knows it has power locks. It even locks both sides when you push the handle forward on the driver's side.

This is the only one I know of (with stock door latch hardware): https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...r-locks-3.html

Mid-fifties have a lot more options than BonusBuilts.

OK I may have learned something today! <p>The locks are controlled by the inside door handle? Both doors on my other F1 will not open and I assume they are locked, windows are down, but I never got around to checking to see if the latches were stuck or locked. Which way do you move the door handle from the inside to unlock the door? Does this work on the passenger side if it is locked and there is no key?

The key lock is a separate mechanism from the inside handle lock. If you lock the door with one, you can't unlock it with the other, and vice-versa. But the door should still open from the inside even if the key lock is activated. It only locks the handle from turning, and has nothing to do with the latch itself. The inside handle will turn one way to lock and the other way to open from it's center resting place. Give it a try and see what happens.

Ross,
I am visiting family out of state and had not seen your post. Thanks for the link. I had thought about the 2 different actions on the original F-1 door handles. Tom's solution in that link looks like a good solution. I will have to look at duplicating his design. I was at the point of getting the pieces to end up with keyless remotes. It is about the last item (I think) that I had not worked out on my build. I am primarily in the working to get the remaining sheet metal in final color mode.

What my plan is to get a drivers side key lock is to rob the parts off of my 5 star deluxe cab doors i have since my regular doors are in better shape than the 5 stars.

Bill, after looking at all the door latch pics I have, I'm thinking the way to do it would be to use solenoids to operate the blocking peg that the key cylinder normally moves. Obviously you'd have to have a door latch on the DS that has the locking parts for the key cylinder, but you wouldn't have to drill your door for a cylinder.

Ross,
Thanks for your thoughts, I got home last night and will pull out door latches to take a look at what I can do. We had snow again last night and I need to get the tractor out to plow this AM. The doors are just in decent prime at this point so it is a good time to take a look. I do not have a drivers side lock type of latch so I would need to go on the hunt for one.
