So the 4R70W is an updated version of the E4OD?
Why such a radical change in designation?
It now looks like one for GM trans.

4R70W is the updated verison of the AOD. There is a 4R100, that is the updated version of the E4OD. Ford used the 4R100 [E4OD] up until very recently, I believe the new 6 speed auto in the 09 F150's will be taking its place.

The E4OD is a really tough transmisson, it gets a bad rap though.
