I am looking to put a 5spd manual trans into my 85 F150 and I was wondering if anyone knew what transmissions came in the 87-96 Trucks so that I could try to find one. I am looking for a relatively strong trans cause I am going to need it to haul with. I want the 5spd for the extra gear for fuel economy. Thanks in advance.
I forgot to mention its two wheel drive so I need a 5spd for two wheel not four. Not really sure if it makes a difference but I thought I would throw it out there.
The ZF came in 2wd and 4wd versions, but I don't think the tailshaft housings were the same between the two (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It's just a matter of finding a 3/4 ton or 1 ton 2wd that has the transmission you need.
I have a 351W. (5.8L) So I basically need to find an F250 or F350 with a stick? Can I use a trans out of a deisel or is that a different bellhousing? Do I need to change the flywheel as well?
I believe diesel engines used a different housing than the windsor blocks. You would definetely need the right a new flywheel for a 5.8 that can be used with a ZF.
Most came with diesels or 460s, but there were plenty made with 300s and 351s. You shouldn't have a problem finding one, but it will cost you close to $1000 for a known good tranny. Your best bet might be to find a parts truck with the tranny in it.
godblessmud:which truck are you talking about? There are only two truck mentioned, his 85 f150 and my 84 f250, and neither was available with a 5 speed, let alone a mazda.
