K&N for a 1977 F-100?

I have a 1977 F-100 and it is equipted with a Holley Street Avenger carb. Is there any way I can hook up a K&N air induction to this carb in this truck?

I looked at the K&N site and could not see that there was an application.

Do you have the OEM air filter setup? K&N should have a drop in filter.

They do, but I was looking for the cold air induction set up.

You could get a carb elbow, some tubing, and stick a cone on it.. FWIW, Fordmuscle.com did a review on these cold air kits, and debunked them as a myth busted.

I would have to see how they did the test to really believe that it was legitimate. We all know cold air gives more power than warm air drawn in from under the hood. (and that is a dyno proven fact) Even if its .5 HP, that is still .5 more than before.

Here you go

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/03/coldair/

To sum it up
"It is pretty conclusive that the aftermarket conical filter, relocated to the fenderwell, offers absolutely no performance advantage over the stock air box fitted with a clean K&N panel filter.

Both the stock air-box and the Moroso kit pick up air from the same source -the right fenderwell. So the quality of air entering the engine is not changing. "

Then this would also imply that the old hood air scoop does nothing either and I think we all know that is not true.

You'd need something like this.

This all fine on a Mustang that was designed from the factory for speed.

I put a name brand cold air intake on my 99 F250 V10. Just by doing this it increased my MPG by 1. Doesn't sound like a lot until you factor in that before I was getting 9.5 MPG. So almost a 10% increase in MPG.

Now for the perfomance part of the question. Not sure. I have never taken the old V10 down the 1/4 mile and done a comparision. But I by the seat of the pants, it feels much faster.

You also have to think about trucks compared to sports cars. There is a lot of money put into R&D on factory components of sports cars to get the fastest, reliable vehicle they can. Now on a truck, it's a different story. Yes they do the R&D on the trucks also, but if you think about it, trucks have to live up to alot more abuse then sports cars. Trucks can go through 3'-0" of water, up and down dirt and gravel roads all day long, etc. Where a sports car will usually spend 99% of its life on the pavement.

So what I am saying is, sports cars factory air box's aren't as restrictive as trucks. So if you take a restrictive air box off a truck and put a sports car type air intake on, then IMO you would get more power and better MPG. But by doing that, you also loose some of the features built into a truck air box for sheilding off all the extra dust, dirt, water, etc. that a truck goes through.
