Just got my setup from Jody. He sent installation instructions along with the programmer and they are pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if anyone has any "tips" or suggestions that come from experience. My truck is a 2001 F250, 7.3, six speed manual. Thanks.
i think Jody covered everything well in the instructions, if you follow them and clean the silicone of the contacts you will be perfectly fine. i know 6sp can be a pain while removing the PCM, and especially the plastic cover on it.
so make sure take you time remove pcm bolt under the hood and dont force it if you unsure.
Welcome to Permagrin Club...
I have a 6spd manual too, and getting the PCM box out is almost impossible without removing the 2 mounting bolts inside the footwell (the clutch pedal gets in the way), but Jody's instruction mentions that anyway.
Also, don't be tempted to just plug in the connector on the firewall to test it (like I did) without bolting it up - it just won't work without being fully bolted up. It's a pain to get that bolt in and out repeatedly if you haven't quite cleaned the connectors properly (I had to dismantle the whole thing and redo it because of this) but once it's all done it's well worth the effort.
Main thing - take your time and clean that PCM connector properly!!
It is easy. Like Badger said, don't mess around on the cleaning. I may have cleaned mine a little too much, but I used plenty of duct tape, too! Go to Jody's website and print out or at least look at the pics of the cleaned contacts. ITP diesel also has them on their website. It is simple to do. It was way easier than any other mod I did to my truck. Cleaning the contacts well takes longer than bolting or unbolting the PCM (in an auto). Good luck and have fun. I didn't see where you are from, but I hope the roads are dry. Then again smokey doughnuts are fun, too!!!
Welcome
