i believe the tranny goes in/out through the cab floor. when you take the transmission cover off, there's quite a lot of room to remove it. i have my seat out now, don't know if it needs to come out, but would make it simpler.
I pulled my transmission out of my panel truck last summer through the floor opening. I removed both seats just to have extra room, no big deal. I lifted it out myself. Installing the engine without the transmission itself won't be a big problem but you will have to support the back of the engine because it's supported through the transmission. I just blocked up my engine when I pulled the transmission.
Easiest way for me is to install trans first, support with a jack, then install engine. Or install as one unit.
+1... Especially with the big 4-sp. If your hood is off, and radiator out, it will drop in easily with the engine level. Make sure your clutch disc is centered properly. Hint: do your belts before you put it in, it's 100x easier.
