ok, i ordered the heim joint replacement for the clutch bushing last week and i put it in yesterday. i must say, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! this truck has not shifted this smooth until now!!! even when i bought it it would kinda pop into gear and did the same thing after i got the shift forks replaced and even did it after a new bushing, but now it's just smooth all the way!
I was having big problems getting the truck in gear at a dead stop. when i would try to put it into 1st the truck would roll forward and pop into gear and if i wanted to put it in reverse.. huh, forget it. it wasn't happening. it popped out of reverse everytime and made me look really stupid in a crowd of people!!
the install wasn't that hard although it did take me like 6 hours to do it. That is only b/c i couldn't find a screwdriver long enough to get enough leverage on the clutch swing arm to get it off. once i got that off it was pretty smooth sailing.
Anybody that has a 5sp. in their truck, i highly recommend do this to your truck. this thing just turned my truck totally upside down!!
I agree. I did the mod a week ago Sunday. Took me two hours. I never took the clutch rod out, and just cut the eye off where it was. I will be doing the Stancor gpr mod tomorrow, so I think I will tweak the clutch mod a bit and back the hex screw off a bit because I find I am having to really punch down the clutch to shift smoothly when the tranny is real cold.
I ran the truck hot today. With the tranny fluid warm, everything flowed and shifted like a dream.
All in all, a good mod...much better than Ford's plastic junk.
yeah, it took me a LONG time just to get the clutch swing arm out just to drive out the pin in it. the pin was welded on mine so i had to grind down the weld and then drive the pin out. i also took the clutch master cylinder out and cut the eye off with a sawzall. then used a grinder to grind it down flat and then used a really fine file to get it nice and smooth.
I did mine in an hour or so. My clutch rod from the swing arm was attached to the clutch cylinder with a metal tab. It was in the plastic assembly that won't let you start the truck until the pedal is down. I didn't see it until I had actually taken the master cylinder off the firewall. You can pull that piece out of the truck without messing with the clutch cylinder. The latch is on the bottom and if you didn't know where to look you could miss it.

I tried getting the master cylinder out, but was scared I was going to bust it. I saw the metal tab and popped it off, but because I don't know exactly how it is assembled passed the firewall, I left everything in place and just cut it with a pnuematic 4 inch cutting wheel.
Wycowboy, we are getting them off Ebay. It's a pretty simple setup and anyone could make them if they have the tools and patience....except apparently Ford.
Mine just slipped right out. It actually made me feel like it was a flimsy arrangement. It sure was nice to be able to take it out to use the cutoff on it.
hmmm. i knew nothing about a metal tab!!!! i wish i would have known that before hand!! oh well. yeah, the link that NWO posted is where you need to go. the price may seem steep, but is very well worth it after all is said and done.
