Went to jump my truck today cause my batteries are dead and noticed a lot of lloks liek oil under the turbo pedestal. It was like negatives so i didnt look to close but it looked like a few things were oil cover down in there. What could this be and could it be fuel because i am getting **** for mileage. Any andvice would be great. thanks
Probably fuel. Dry it up with paper towels and a long screw driver to push the towels around in the valley. Then check for leaks around the fuel pump, fuel lines and fuel filter housing.
I got dressed for the weather and looked and yes it is fuel there is a small puddle under the banjo bolt(i think thats what they call it) but what could this be and is this the culprit to the horendes fuel mileage, also i do not ever have a puddle of underneath my truck??? thanks
spray her down with brakleen and see where its coming from, its either the banjo bolt or the fuel pump. had a guy at work with the same problem, gave the banjo bolt a slight bump and it stopped for now
yeah the banjo bolt is under the turbo on the back of the lift pump. the size is 1 1/4. use the box end wrench to tighten it up just a little bit. I had that problem once and that fixed the problem.
i would bet the reason you don't see the huge puddle is because you aren't really moving much fuel through your system when the car is parked. whatever finishes spilling from the valley is all you will see when you park it.
here is the test to see if i am full of bull... get a friend to rev the truck up to 2500 or 3000 rpms for a while you look under the truck. my guess is that fuel will pour out at a decent rate.
i saw this first hand last time my truck was on the dyno and led me to the realization i had a bunch of leaks.
Iam sure its the banjo bolt but while your in there look in front of the pump. There is a round black plastic switch in the fule filter housing. They do tend to leak fule down on the fule line right below it. Mine was leaking on both sids of the pump. The banjo bolt and the switch just in front of the pump.
i had a huge leak from mine earlier this year and i thoughtit was a fuel pump, before i decided to change the pump i ightened the banjo bolt, which was lose, and that has fixed it so far havnt had a leak in a couple of months now.
When I had this issue my biggest problem was I did not listen to everyone here. First clean out the valley as best you can, then with truck running jump in on passenger side engine and watch were leaks are occuring. I did finanly purchased a mirror with extension handle and bingo .. found another leak further forward on fuel filter canister.
I'm somewhat mule headed but convinced without cleaning out that valley it is somewhat impossible to really find the leak.
In my case it was lift pump (fuel pump) replacement and fuel canister vacumm sensor that were leaking .. soooo nice to have no diesel fuel smell in cab and valley is bone dry.
i will be doing this tomorrow. i have a diesel leak and i'm unsure of where its coming from. not the fuel pump since i replaced it a year ago and i have ruled out all the fuel lines on the FPR except the bottom one.
Dont rule ot the fuel pump just because its only a year old, things happen.
Bango bolt
Pump
Rubber lines
Every thing on the fuel filter housing. Dont forget the black vac switch. Let us know how you do.
