I have an old 87 f250 and I really want a bed liner beacuse this is part of my truck that looks realllly bad and a little bit rusted and I want a sprayed in bed liner. I went to line-x today and I got a quote for 539 for the bed, tailgate and the top rails on the bed....obviously the truck aint worth a whole lot but I am gonna have it for a while and I do haul a lot of stuff in it..... so what do yall think? too high or just about right. help me out guys! any suggesstions are appreciated... THANKS!
Did you call a few places, I can get line x for cheaper down here in nj, i think my boss got it done for like 400 or so. If you dont want to spend alot maybe look into huricliner, its like 90 for the kit.
down here linex is the most expensive one. if you want something cheaper check around, there is a place called speed liner that is reasonable, the local trailer mfg, sprays it on the flatbeds that he makes, he quoted 300.00 for mine. but i did not do it.
$539 sounds pretty good to me for an over-the-rail job (especially for a longbed, which im assuming an 1987 F250 is).
4+ years ago, my Dakota was quoted for $450 over-the-rail - and that was with a friendly discount! (knew the guys at the Line-X shop very well).
Line-X seems to be really expensive in North Georgia, however, I would consider no other brand and wouldn't hesitate if I had the cash. Also, these Fords are endlessly rebuildable, so as long as your bed is not rusted out or falling apart, I would consider it an investment rather than an expense.
hey guys, I am just gonna have a hard time dropping that kind of money on one I think... I saw this on the internet.... http://www.grizzlygrip.com/ what do yall think, I mean I'm sure it's not as nice as the linex but hey, i mean it looks allright.. what do yall think does anyone got one of these?????
They sell the kits in the autoparts stores by me..even come in an aerosol can too........they look good as interiors and rocker panels too...not to mention inside the fenders(on the rear)makes it easier to clean.
If you don't plan on keeping it you could go with a drop in. If you do that don't take it out. It will rub the paint off and rust quick when you do. If you are going to keep it and the underside is in good shape pay for it.
If you have a garage space and a weekend to spare look into the Herculiner from any auto parts store, around $130 with the extra quart for an 8 foot bed. I paid $1500 for my 1988 and could not justify a $500 tab for a spray in job so I did the Herculiner and it is outstanding for the price. It took me all of two full days to do it right but I have more time than money. Biggest chunk was wire brushing all the loose paint & surface rust, then the xylene wipedown. After that I just used the rollers in the kit, two full coats plus a third on the bed surface. Taped the side rails so it has a nice over the rail look as well. The dry time between coats takes about 6 hours, and the garage in nice to keep flying debris out while it dries. It is a heavy texture, lots of rubber particles suspended in the mixture so you have to stir constantly to make sure you get even coats. Plus you can touch it up any time, just xylene the spot, touch up, then dry and it blends great. I even had a local body shop guy who sprays on the side ask me about it, he thought it turned out great and was shocked when I told him it was a roll on do it yourself job.
