1996 E150 starting problems
I have a 1996 Ford E-150 club wagon with 4.9L L6
When the motor is cold(not running for a while) it starts with no problem what so ever and drives fine.
After it has been running few minutes and warms up it has problems starting-but if I let it cool down it will start. The hotter it is the harder it is to start. If its only been running for few minutes I can hold the gas pedal to the floor and it will start, but if its been running for a while it has to sit about 10 minutes before it will start. Also note it seems to be getting spark when trying to start so im ruling out ignition. Once it is running I notice no problems of anykind other than it will not go faster than about 80MPH but then again this is a tortise
Items recently repaired or Items thought to be problem and ruled out
-Battery is about yr old-tested fine-and holds about 14.5 volts while running
-All connections appear to be good
-Spark plugs/wires about yr old
-fuel filter is about yr old--fuel pump can be heard when ignition turned on
-distributer/ distributer cap/ rotor are all new and timing checked
-ignition coil is new
-exhaust is not plugged
I am next going to replace the engine coolant temp sensor as suggested by a mechanic and see if that helps
Also note that the CEL is not on and no codes thrown
I am looking into selling this van and would like to have it in good running condition before sale if its easy fix
Thanks in advance and I look forward to time spent on this forum
