Carb size

I have a 429 rated at around 350 hp. will an edelbrock 600 be big enough to suck air at 5500 rpm or when will it ever cut out? basically will a 600cfm carb be big enough? I was told i can rejet it and other stuff which the carb will come with, to make it a 750cfm carb, is that possible? Thanx for any help.
o ya, carb is brand new, never out of box and comes with those extra parts mentioned for 300 bucks. If it does not work dad will put it on his 260 powered falcon. is it worth a shot to buy it and just try it?

You can't "rejet" your carb to a to a 750. Rejetting only changes the amount of fuel metered, not the amount of air metered. On the edelbrock series of carb, the 600 and 750 are essentially the same carb but the 600 has smaller throttle blades in the primaries. (Both the 600 and 750 have the same size secondary throttle blades) The 750 will also have larger jets and smaller metering rods (that flow more fuel). I have seen many edelbrock #1405& #1406 600 cfm carbs on 429 and 460's. It will work good on a stock engine as long as you jet it correctly. If you're engine is beefed up any, I would step up to the 750.

It will run with that you will get better hp and torque with a 750 though but the 600 would be fine on a pretty stock engine. My concern is 300 bucks is way to much for a 600. If you want to check jegs.com has 600s with the electric choke for 237.99. You could actually get a 800 cfm elec. choke for 319.99. Just tryin to save you some money as I know I hate to spend more than i need to.

Good Luck Andy
