New headers and y-pipe
That makes all the difference.
I have a vacuum gauge on my '01, and one of the things I forgot to mention was that keeping it above 10 inches of vacuum helps a LOT. It's slow, you aren't going to win any races, and you're sure to get people climbing up your butt when you pull out on to the highway.
It seems that since I put the headers on, normal cruise on the highway gives me slightly better vacuum. Meaning the engine isn't working as hard, or there's less backpressure resulting in more vacuum on the intake stroke. It's about .5-1 inch, but that's a noticeable difference.
Just got a 9ton tri-axle trailer thats abouth 4500lbs, and put a 3500lbs car on it. The truck loved the extra work that it had to do but I had to down shift at least down to 3rd to keep or gain speed. (6-spd) This was on a back road more or less going at around 50-55 at the start of the hill. does that sound about right? (4:30's & 35in tire) It'll be nice towing with the thing opened up a little more. Wont have to push so many rpm's. Not that i'm worried or anything.
I'll keep everyone posted on how much the truck inproves. Can't wait.
For fear of being laughed off of the forum, what do you clean the MAF with? I'm not mechanically challenged, but it's not something that I've done before. I don't want to destroy it and have to buy another one.
I'm picking up the Helix tomorrow and am waiting for a Y-pipe to arrive. When it gets here she's going in the shop to have the Y-pipe installed and a catectomy. Can't hurt. I'm also going to do the plugs, and O2 sensor. The rigs a one-owner, butI have no idea when or if any thing was done to it. I'm also adding synthetic oil, probably Royal Purple.
Thanks to all for your advice and help. I dare say I do like this big ol' V-10, but then I ride a Valkyrie Motorcycle so big is better. I'll let you know if I've tossed money away or if I gain anything.
Jerry
