FE AND FT starter ?

Are the starters the same? They look 100% identical.

Um, be aware of the tooth count on the bendix gear.

They are (or can be) different.

The FT uses a coarse tooth count, the FE uses a finer tooth count, I believe. The early FEs use the coarse tooth count... again, I believe.

Talking Starters

I know from personal experience that FE @ FT starters will interchange. If you go to the local parts store they list the same starter for both--also the same starter drive. I looked at a FE and a FT flywheels this morning other than the casting numbers --weight cast into the FT none on the FE they were identical as far as starter teeth is concered. I've noticed that most of the ones i've pulled from FT's are the 41/2" type and many that come from cars are the 4" style.
Just some observations from many years in the salvage business.
