I've been interested in shift kits for a while but was intimidated until Chris reassured me they aren't that tough to install. I've seen users on this forum use both the B&M kit and the TransGo kit... Can I get some opinions as to which one is more worth my while and/or easier to install? Cost between the two doesn't matter to me, giving my transmission the right parts is more important. Part numbers would also be appreciated here
I went out into my barn and dug out the B&M Box here is the part number from it. Its BMM-10055. You know how I fell. There was a spring that does come with it, that you can do but dont have to. Its for the pump, which you would have to pull the trans to do. B&M says you can do it if its out, bit if trans is installed you dont have to.
The spring is supposed to boost pump pressure. I searched Jegs and they dont have it either. I know i googled it when I was tellin DJDemon to do it. I did find it but now nothing from ebay lol. Ill keep looking.
Boost pump pressure = even firmer shifts I would assume? I know that increased line pressure = firmer shifts...
I have the B&M towing kit. I bought the entire transpack. The shifts are firm and crisp, but not harsh, but deffinatly better than the soft slow stock shifts.
Not sure If I'm making sense... If you are anywhere near Blaine, an hour north east of Knoxville, I'll give you a ride!
So someone explain to me... Aside from just having firmer/more jarring shifts (which help to prolong the life of the transmission especially when towing), what are the other benefits here? It doesn't actually give the truck more OOMF does it?
Here is a site that still sells it. http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=174888
The Kit just makes the trans shift faster. No more power or anything like that. But lets say ur 1/4 mile is like 15 sec with ur stock trans. You do shift kit, and it shifts faster ur 1/4 time is now like 14.5 or so. You know shifts faster so ur power gets put down sooner. The Trans pack as the B&M site states that you have more control over your shifting then the shift improver kit, which I didnt know.
I don't know about control, and no the shifts are not Jarring (Unless you install the race plate (I guess that's what it's called), it is a smooth, crisp, firm shift a little kick, but nothing that will snap your neck back unless you are really getting on it. it is conforitable enough the wife didn't notice the change, but at wide open throttle it will bark 31's going into 2nd with a 302 and 3.08:1 gears.
If you don't know, the 302 and 3.08:1 aren't a desirable combination, especially with oversized tires (Not much oversized, but still larger than stock).

I don't know how else to explain it to you.
Good enough for me! I think I'll order one of these soon if someone can sell me on which one is better
my brother had B&M the kit on his.. tranny in his 88' silvirado..( the almost same tranny as the E40D but in chevy i dont remember the name now Th350 something like that ) but he had it on street strip seting and DAMN that thing shifted hard when hes flooring it...it even chirp the tires giong into 3rd.. but annoying to cruise around.. it shifted at 2500 or 3000 giong down in traffic..
chris from the f350 make a video for us please where are dieng to get it!!! lol normal driving from 1 to 4th and a 1-4 WOT drive

the 0-60 from conanski you can see how the transgo kits works.. skan, you remember the post about flareside thunder we all posted our 0-60 vid? well there conaskies video is..
I took a chance a few years back and did a shiftkit in my 91 Cougar XR7 302 with AOD. It wasn't bad at all. Just follow the instructions and you will be ok. I have used both TransGo and Baumann. Either one gave great results, but the Baumann had more "settings" as to what parts went in to make it shirt harder. I think you will be fine to do the kit on your own. I am going to put a shiftkit on my E4OD very soon. I will probably install a deeper pan and or transcooler too as the E4OD is damn expensive to rebuild.
i put a transgo sk e40d kit in my 92 idi diesel. it made the shifts go from "very slushy" to "sorta firm". granted the diesel power delivery is very different since ur not spinning it over 3 grand, but there is now a good shift without having to lift on the throttle.
one thing they don't tell you in the instructions is that there are a bunch of check valve ***** and a spring/ poppet valve sitting on top of the metal plate above your valve body that will go everywhere if you're not careful taking it down.
