Ditto on FleetFilter. I get two from FF for the price of one at NAPA and I usually get it very quick. Note what Kris said though.. its a 46637 although we usually refer to it as a 6637. About whether it'll fit the 99... I have a 99.5 and it went right into the stock tube. If you have an early 99 you might need a piece of pipe (others will chime in). Here are a few tips. Remove the tube from the turbo end and clean it out. Use a mild abrasive like fine sand paper and rough (just a little) the inside edge of the tube where it'll contact the filter and also rough the filter neck. This'll just give it a little extra bite. Put your arm through the tube and then put the filter on the other end. The hand in the tube will help you get the filter on and it'll help you feel when it is fully seated against the inner lip of the tube. Clamp it good. Reinstall tube on turbo end. Start it up and ENJOY!!! Check the clamp on the filter a couple times over the next few days just for piece of mind (I'm a worry wart). Drop Pete (F250_) a note about a custom cover for your new toy. Have fun.
I will third or forth that sentiment. If you can wait 2 of them from fleet filter will cost you a little more than my local Napa which cost me $49 but I just didn't want to wait so it was "worth" it to me at the time.
I noticed even if you do a search on fleetfilter for 6637, it will bring the 46637 up for you, the '4' confused me the first time so Mike makes a very good point
I just did my 6637 conversion on my 2000 Excursion 7.3 this evening. The filter cost $27.33 at my local Napa. I took the 4 bolts out of the air box and removed it. I took some brake cleaner solvent and cleaned out the end of the air inlet rubber boot and on the 6637 filter. I had to persuade the boot to go over the filter a little, but it slipped on and I clamped it. I took the air temp sensor and tie wrapped it to the bottom of the mount for the air box so that it would correctly sense the air temp going into the filter. It was a piece of cake and took about 15 minutes to do the conversion. I didn't buy any extra parts other than the filter itself.
Some folks say that it's a little noisier, but I didn't notice any difference driving around town this evening. I did hear a little air sound right after a heavy acceleration. I'm anxious to see how it does out on the Interstate next week when I drive from Lexington, KY to Hilton Head Island, SC. It will also be interesting to see if it affects the fuel mileage any.
I didn't bother moving the restriction/filter change monitor. I had the filters almost stop completely up with dirt on my 2000 E350 7.3 and the indicator never moved, so I don't trust them.
On an early 99', you have to get a 4" 45* pipe (I believe O.D.) to get it too fit.
Easiest way to tell if it is an early 99' is to see where your powerstroke badge is. If it is on your front fender it is an early 99'. On the door is a late 99'. Pray for the latter.
thanks everyone so much for the info! also do i have to totally remove the air box???? it is a 99.5 model i currently have a k&n filter on it noww what kinds of differences should i look for when it is installed????
My truck has the washable filter mod. You clean it and oil it. I was tired if cleaning it and so I got the 46637 from Fleet filter. The thing is a Bomber! Do I need to remount my battery? Looks like it will barely fit. Will air be constricted because of the tight fit ?Just asking before I take out my old filter and box. Thanks
I had the same washable K and N excuse for a filter for years until I switched to the 6637, I put it and the old filter box somewhere but could not have cared very much because I can't remember where I put it, or care. No the battery is fine just where it is.
