Ruh-roh Raggy, my intake tube does NOT look like this one. I've got the early 99 with late 99 airbox, I thought it required swapping the whole assembly from a late 99 though. Hopefully this won't delay my 6637 install I wonder if I could have a piece of 4" exhaust bent to the right shape and just get rid of the rubber tube altogether...
I purchased my 6637 for $27.33 at the NAPA store at 1716 Regency Road, Lexington, KY, 40503 and the phone number is 859/277-1746. I buy a lot of parts from them and I asked for the fleet price.
Same with the NAPA in Weiser ID, just tell them you want the fleet price. The have a ghost account set up that they purchase all filters for the local farmers through so they get a massive buyers discount working together.

Couple things wrong with this idea. Good luck getting any custom 4" exhaust bending done. And you will not be able to seal metal to the 6637, at least not to my satisfaction you won't.
I thought the common way to join the filter to the intake was to use a short piece of 4" exhaust??!? No matter, I think rather than try to scrape up enough tubing with the proper bends I'll go buy a 3" 45 deg. PVC coupler and a couple feet of pipe and just rig it up that way. I desperately want my K&N to go away and to get the big boy in there!
I agree and I hope no one sees the tape. Although it is aluminum and wont frey like duct tape..lol The K&N is a plastic tube and I have not found a fitting that works. What I need is the stock tube. Any one have one they might want to part with?
Or where can get one online?
Mark, if you notice I have a 3" pvc dwv collar between the filter and the hose. The collar fits inside the filter and inside the hose. Not too tight, just right.
It don't get that cold down here. It's over 70* today and will be getting warmer.
Does the 3" PVC fit tight inside the filter? I thought it needed to be 4" OD, and the PVC and ABS I found in town was NOT 4" OD.
Who is it that is having the problem with the OEM rubber tube working, just the early 99 trucks? ZX250 made doing mine appear to be so easy I had to wonder why I drove the 75 mile round trip for his help. But I did get to meet a great member, so I sure ain't complaining.
My problem is no way to hook the filter to the stock air tube for one, for two I'm not sure I wouldn't need to just ditch the stock air tube back back to the CCV fitting to make it work. Right now if I could just find something 4" OD to stuff into the filter and test fit it I'd be happy! I'll go snap a pic here in a bit of my intake, stand by.
Chase, if that is the later 99 air box then the 6637 should just slip inside the rubber tube. I didn't quite understand whether you had the early or late tube.
Mike- I spent some time wrenching tonight and pulled most of the airbox assembly out (still need to pull the batt and remove the last piece). I dropped the 6637 in there and it was about 1.5" above the fender, so by the time I remove that bottom tray I should be good. I just hope my stock intake hose will reach the filter easily.
Like I mentioned earlier, I have an early 99, but my intake is late 99 (see the photos, pulls air through the grille). The end of the filter wouldn't quite squeeze into the stock intake hose, but it was cold and I didn't try really hard. I'm going to take the CCV coupler to town tomorrow and see if I can find a PVC coupler of the same OD to patch everything together.
My exhaust should be here tomorrow too, so I might have some extra 4" tubing to work with but it's aluminized so I'd have to paint or otherwise coat the inside to keep it from rusting.
Long story short, I think I can make it work but it will take some tinkering. I'm a crafty guy though, and one way or another that dang filter will be installed before the weekend is over!
Forgot to add- I pulled the whole intake off tonight to check the turbo because of the dusting from the K&N. While the wheel doesn't look exactly perfect, I was pleased to find it was in really good shape (the edges are somewhat shiny and have minor imperfections, the bearings were tight) so at least I don't have substantial turbo damage from the dust going through the filter.
I did this mod for a friends farm truck who was running a K&N, plenty of chuncks missing out of his wheel. Another reason to be worried about that type of filter....
No chunks missing out of mine fortunately, I feel quite lucky. The light was bad tonight, but if I think about it tomorrow I'll snap a pic of the turbo.

Your probably fine, this was a farm truck that was used to run in the fields & feed cattle every day.....
