I have a 429 out of a 72 T bird. The crank bore for the torque converter is coming up 1.830 . I am .018" smaller than the converter which is 1.848 . I have cleaned it and do not see anything odd.
Whats up with this? Thanks
I keep trying to tell people when they do a conversion that the TQ needs to changed too.
A friend of mine on my conversion cost me a tranny case because he tightened until the case broke.
My TQ nose from the 400 was too big for the 70 -429 crank.
The books list 2 different tq. 1 has a 1.375 hub and the bigger one 1.848.
I have a 460 on the ground that has a bore big enough to accept the tq.and was mated to the trans at one time. My 429 is coming up 1.830 and is not near enough to either of the above specs. I almost ordered a 1.375 TQ and thought I would double check the bore diminsion. Glad I did! What TQ is going to fit this bore? Thanks
