Hey guys, Planning on doing the tubing mod. my doors dont rattle and seem to close fine. Just sounds like i have my windows cracked all the time. noise level drives me crazy. Has anyone noticed a big differance in noise level?? thanks
Hey, I did the door seal mod a while back and it helped a bit so the doors didn't vibrate as much on our county roads. I bought mine as surplus from Leisure Pro scuba gear online. It is black and is quite flexible, doors take a bit more to shut when it is around 0F (about twice a year here). I took the entire seal off, ran a coat hanger through on of the mini drain holes and poked a hole in the latex tubing. Then I crimped the coat hanger to the hole and pulled it through. You don't need to tear up the weatherseal.
Did this to my Driver door. At highway speed you could hear the air leaking in. But after the mod - no sound works great. There is a video on this site somewhere. If i can remember where I will post the link
Update - Do a search on the "Super Duty - Heavy Duty" forum and put door seal in the search box it will be the first one and it has a video.
I would do a link to it but I have never done one on this site - so someone tell me how so I won't look like a complete idiot next time
You can also use an air hose to blow some string through the OEM hollow door gasket and have a little "pull" to add to the "push" with the new tubing... sort of like blowing a wire-pull through conduit when running wire through conduit.
ok, so did my drivers side door last night. purchased 3/8 vinyl tubing from Lowes. Shop Watts 3/8" x 1/4" x 20' Clear Vinyl Tubing at Lowes.com . Is this the wrong stuff? My door would not shut right at all and i felt like i was gonna break the glass by slamming it so hard to get to close right. I ended up removing the back half that goes down the hadle side and it shut fine. I figure most wind hits front anyway. Anyone else have that problem?
Hey guys Ive been looking into this mod and there is also another thread in the powerstroke section Door-Seal Mod In that thread they say there is a better type of tubing to use other than the latex tubing....its called Caulk Saver I got mine at home depot 60' for under $10. I believe you can get it at any hardware store. Good Luck guys. I'm gonna put this stuff in when i get a chance
I used the clear vinyl, and at first, the doors seemed to "spring" back, but after a few closes, aint an issue no more...gonna leave mine in, since living in so-cal, dont get that cold.
