Good morning gentlemen. I have foud this thread to be the most helpful thread out there for the layman. So with that in mind I will try again for all your expert advice. I own a 1997 F350 with A HYPERTECH chip, Bully dog exhaust and a K & N air intake. I have now given thought to adding a dual Pillar gauge system to the truck (Boost & EGT gauge). Being a layman, how hard is it to install these gauges and more importantly where in do the sensors (lack of better words) need to be installed? I have done some internet research and the answers are quite different from source to source. I want to make these gauges AS SIMPLE a hookup as possible but am a bit confused on locations as to mounting. This is where I have ended up and please someone correct me if Im off target. Had in mind to connect the boost tap in the intake line just AFTER the turbo (just before entering engine). And attaching the EGT gauge to the downpipe. Anything wrong with these locations? Your help is greatly appreciated as usual. Thanks Maxx
Boost can go in the "Y" pipe or your map sensor line. EGT probe location (is determined by your gauge type; pre-turbo or post turbo) Pre turbo = the easiest place is the rear bottom of the left (drivers) side exhaust manifold (this is where most people have them). Post turbo = down pipe. Hope this helps.
I just put guages in my turck the boost i spliced into the line for the map sensor. The EGT i have yet to finish but i will be putting it in the driverside manifold.
The EGT is better in the manifold(pre turbo) becuase that is the most acurate. There can be a 300-400 degree differance from pre-turbo temps and after turbo. It is a little harder but not much
