It doesn't say "Motorcraft" anywhere. Just a big "Holley" on the front. Is this original? Maybe this is an after market carb? Isn't a 600cfm unit kind of small for a 460 on a dually?
There are numbers on the front of the air horn. What are they? I contacted Holley a while back about the carb (Holley made for Motorcraft) I had, which was off a 79 E-250 van with a 460. That is what they said it was a 600 cfm carb. They called it a 4180C.
I agree with superdave. The Holley carbs on the 460's are specially made for Ford by holley. They are a 600cfm, vacuum secondary smogger carb. There will be one large vacuum nipple on the top of each float with a hose going to the E.V.A.P. system. These carbs work excellent for those who only use their vehicles to get groceries and for those crazy and wild nights of bingo. However I tend to use them to weigh down my garbage can. If however you need to tune it, the idle mixture adjustment is on the base of the carb at the front. The screws (if I can remember) are allen heads.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jul-02 AT 07:24 PM (EST)]That is a Ford - Holley. The E means 80's model and the 5 designates the model year, being 85. So it is a built in 1985, Holley made for Motorcraft, 600 CFM carburetor. As far as recomendations, I rebuilt mine and had no problems with it. But my son wanted to put a new Holley on the truck, but still replaced it with the 4160, 600 CFM. Pretty much the same thing. It gets 10.5 mpg.
Thanks...This one needs to be overhauled, so I wanted to make sure it was worth keeping. Will upgrading to a 750 cfm have better performance for towing, and is it worth the expense?
By the way, my F350 CC dually gets around 6.5 mpg. I am hoping that a carb overhaul will help a little.
Need a bigger carb? I have to offer my 2 cents here.....the Holley Avenger 770 I have on Harrison has too many ponies for Harrison....talk about TORQUE...he chews up mountains and then spits them out....he WAILS going uphill...gotta be careful - the speedometer will peg out v-e-r-y- quickly.
I would not hesitate to go from a 600 to a 770. You'll develop a "first name relationship" with all the local fuel stops, though....
