I know my EFI 460 is bank fired for the injectors. I know this is a bad practice and does not use fuel very efficiently. Most newer vehicles use sequential injection. Is there a semi-easy way to convery my 460 to SEFI? And would it be a real benefit or not? Are there any Speed Density computers out there that control an E40D and have sequential injection that I could just swap in (as well as re-pin the ECM harness)? I know the firing order between the 302 and 460 is the same, but would the computer know the difference as far as pulse widths are concerned for the injectors?
I don't have my Uderstanding Modifying Ford Fuel Injection book in front off me but I do no that the later years off the 5.0 HO engines used SEFI. Off the top of my head I think after 1990 about the same time they went to mass air meter Hope this helps Eric
You may be in luck. The 1996 (and maybe 1997) California 460 chassis vans used a mass air eec(sequential). Some motor homes are rumored to use it as well. My dealer gave me two eec part numbers for this mass air unit. I do not know if there are other things like sensors you would need to change. Best bet may be to get the 1997 service manual and check out the engine wiring.
