In the 90 degree weather I'm in, after a half-hour of driving, when I start to come to a stop, my 460 begins to lope like a dying dog! It almost stalls, but never actually does...
It is definately heat related, as the gauge will always be reading 3/4 when it starts doing this. Anything slightly below 3/4 and it runs fine!
Who knows what is going on here? I have a brand spanking new super cooling rad (Trailer Special standard equipment) with 4 rows in the core, brand new, freshly mixed 70-30 coolant, brand new 192 thermostat, and no leaks, and system holds pressure for hours.
Brand new fuel pump, new fuel hose, steel fuel line where it should be, fresh rebuilt 4350 carb, set to spec... Lots of cylinder compression.
The only 'flaw' I can see is someone ran the driver side exhaust pipe into the passenger side pipe in a rude way: We're talking a 90 degree angle! And, it was squashed some to make the welding a little easier, I guess...
Could the restriction cause excessive motor heat, and this idle problem that seems to be connected to temp?
Should I just throw in a 180 thermostat? I already have a 16 lb rad cap, OEM. Timing is about right, and so is fuel mixture. If anything, I may be a touch rich. I hope I have described my setup enough.
Any suggestions welcome!
Please help!

I geuss you don't know what the actual temp is. with that size of rad you should not get to 3/4 at only a half hour off running. What it should be at is normal operating temp say around 1/2 gauge scale. Try the 180 stat Eric
Put an aftermarket temp gauge on it to find out what temps you're actually running and as Eric said, install the 180 degree thermostat. Did you change the fan clutch?
In many instances a 4-row radiator will not be as effective as a 3-row simply because it doesn't have as much airflow over the cooling tubes.
I have the direct drive fan, with no clutch, so it is always spinning.
I have a 160 thermostat, but I think that is too cool. I'll try the 180 for summer. Thanks a lot!

I doubt if your thermostat setting is the problem, but you could have a stuck termostat, causing a heating problem. You mentioned that you may be running a touch rich with your carb. I would lean it out some and see if that fixes your problem. A new 195 theermostat and a leaner mixture should fix your problem (I think). That's what I did and fixed the same problem!
I threw in a 160 stat temporarily and got it running over 1/4 scale. Now it's cool, but still running rough when 'warm'. I will try the leaner mixture and let you know how it goes.
