'97 power windows getting weak

'97 power windows getting weak

Both my power windows are getting weak - but in a strange way. They go fast, slow, fast, slow - about 2" fast, 1/2" slow. One still works but the other sticks in slow mode ( going up requiring a human to help it along)

I have torn down one motor and checked the brushes etc with no improvement but a bad motor would not do this anyway since it probably spins several times to go 2". Also there was no obvious damage to the gears.

Anybody have ideas on what this may be?

The tracks are getting crusted up, they need to be cleaned and coated with a dry silicone spray.

I did spray the window tracks - no change. Do I also need to do the horizontal metal piece with the big Nylon inserts?

You need to lube that track and nylon rollers with aerosol lubricant. Gunk makes a dry film lube or white lithium lube in aerosol. Either works well for this application.
